Effective communication is the single biggest issue that architects, city planners, land and real estate developers, construction companies, and real estate firms highlight when asked what they struggle with most in their businesses. Whether it is an architect trying to communicate the design intent of their creation, or a real estate developer describing a project’s intent, this process of reaching consensus on what a project will ultimately be is an expensive bottleneck. Architects and other trained professionals routinely state that they have the ability to create a 3D image in their mind from their blueprints and renderings, but admit this is not possible for the average layperson. The result is a sometimes challenging process of consensus building or worse yet a dissatisfied customer who got something other than they envisioned.
Soon all architecture and real estate will be planned, developed, and sold using sophisticated 3D virtual reality to assist in the communication process. Architects will design and present in interactive 3D to customers, and Planning Boards. Developers will use 3D to pre-sell their developments, and incorporate custom changes before ground is broken. Business and recreational travelers will understand their destinations before they leave. Students will tour potential universities before they choose. Cities will require 3D presentations with complete interactivity capabilities in the planning process. Potential owners of homes will want to see the views from every angle before purchasing.
